It just dawned on me that despite my love for Tolkien's Middle-Earth and also being a big fan of PJ's movie adaptations I do not have a single LOTR or Middle-earth related illustration in my gallery. This sad state of affairs must change and thus, for the sake of conversation and gathering ideas, I thought it might be fun to ask you fellow deviants and/or tolkien-o-philes what cool or interesting scenes you would like to see me illustrate from Tolkien's vast tome of work. Currently I'm reading The Hobbit but I've already read LOTR and The Silmarillion almost a decade back so I think I'm somewhat familiar with Tolkien's mythology and I have some rough ideas of what I'd like to paint but I would like to hear your suggestions. Fire away!

Also....Did you like The Desolation of Smaug? Yay or Nay?

A proper, according-to-the-book rendering of Lothlorien! The movie made it all weird and dark (though pretty)! Also, I've always been interested in a scene of Gimli and Frodo looking into the Mirrormere.

Celebrimbor making the Rings of Power! I saw a really cool piece on that once in one of the Paper Tiger artbooks but have been unable to find it again.

I just feel so sorry for Celebrimbor, and man of those featured in the Simillarion.

I haven't watched Desolation of Smaug yet, but the stills look amazing.

Anything from the Silmarillion.  All of Tolkien's books are outstanding, but the Silmarillion is, in my opinion, his most sweeping and epic.  In particular, the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, something from Turin and Beleg's days back in Doriath (really anything from Doriath), or something for Beren and Luthien...or whatever, your art is amazing enough that I'm sure I'll enjoy anything you put your hand to.  I quite liked Desolation--I know it added some things that weren't in the book, but in general I felt that Jackson stayed true to the spirit of Tolkien.  I wasn't quite sure how I felt about Tauriel's romance, but her presence in itself didn't bother me.

tDoS was better than the first, but suffers a near critical flaw in that they kept tacking on pointless nonsense. As a result, many of my favorite parts from the book were glossed over in favor of Hollywood cliches that can be found in B movies. I mean, I think PJ should have trusted the source material. The Hobbit is a brilliant, classic book; why change it?

As for my vote, you should do something with Beorn in man form. I'd like to see your take on him, and his home perhaps.

I second that idea Beorn is one the interesting character Tolkien created would of like to seen more of him in the movie though! But in general I think the hobbit films are awesome but nothing beats a book! ( which is why I love eu star wars pieces, there like images ripped from my mind while reading!)

Oh man, you gotta do something from The Silmarillion. The stories in there are just begging to be painted. So poetic and inspiring. Maybe a Túrin Turambar painting or a Beren and Luthien one. Maybe Earendil. So many possibilities! Plenty of battles to choose from, too.

I see you've got plenty great ideas, and maybe mine is not that epic but I really would like to see Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn in your fantastic style. When I saw you post my first thought was something from the The Silmarillion, but eventually what came to my mind is the slender and gentle Lady of the Wood with her loving husband. But maybe its just my elf addiction speaks from me :D

Something from the War of Wrath.

Celebrimbor making the Rings of Power.

Anything from Numenor and it's people.

The ringwraiths, maybe?

I'll probably add to the list sometime later, but those were the first four to pop into my head.
