Fifth Alsakan Conflict by wraithdt Fifth Alsakan Conflict by wraithdt
This is one of ten pieces I did for the new Star Wars Essential Guide to Warfare. I had a blast working on it and I'm excited that I am able to contribute to the Star Wars universe.

I will be posting them in the order of sequence as it appears in the book. Hope you guys enjoy them!

Admiral Hirken defends the Northern Dependencies during the Fifth Alsakan Conflict. This is one of a series of clashes between the planets Coruscant and Alsakan over the leadership of the Republic that took place over the span of 140 centuries almost 17,000 years BBY(before the Battle of Yavin). Star Wars starships look rather different back in those days when shield technology was rudimentary and instead rely on large reflective armor as their main defense.

A war over leadership of the Republic? Sounds like the Republic's equivalent to the American Civil War.

Did you design the ships, or did someone else. Either way, you're awesome for designing ships from 17,000 years ago, or rendering the designs into this high-action scene.

Interesting how they didn't have shield technology. The ships must've been really primitive.

when i first read the title, i thought it said Alaskan, then i thought 'Alaska ain't in Star Wars. there's no Earth.'

That ship looks loads like the Pillar Of Autumn from Halo, did you draw inspiration from it? 0.O

Gorgeous. The look of Early Galactic History is really captured here- it reminds me very much of the 5000BBY Hyperspace War.

My brother commented that they remind him of some of the ships from Babylon 5. I've don't know if you've ever watched it but it wasn't meant to be a bad thing. These ships are nice looking pieces and I can distinctly see a few different classes. Nice touch, you can't win a battle with brute strength alone.
Harris2300 Featured By Owner Jul 29, 2012
Awesome. :) I almost mistook them for Sith warships from 5000 BBY when the Sith empire fell after a failed attempt to conquer the Republic. Yes, I read Golden Age of the Sith and Fall of the Sith Empire. They were great graphic novels by the way and showed even some of the internal squabbling withing the Sith empire itself. Weak deflector shielding would explain why ships at the time had such angular hull plating.

I remember when these ship designs were first introduced in tales of the I was hyped.

That ship reminds me a bit of the USCSS Sulaco, from the Aliens movies, though it is an interesting concept for a ship. Good job

my brother noticed the same thing, that they look like B5. Personally I think they look the Wrlock class

Just to be sure, these are Alsakani ships and the burning wreck is Coruscanti?
Toblerone-muncher Featured By Owner May 1, 2012
The book says they're Admiral Hirken's swift cruisers that were used to defend the Alsakani colonies in the Northern Dependencies, so that's a "yes".

Designed in 2510 CE by Dr. Robert McLees, the Halcyon only saw a brief era of service due to costly construction and maintenance, a lack of speed, and concerns regarding it's tactical viability. Composed of five hexagonal and octagonal sections fitted together, the Halcyon is the smallest UNSC vessel to be designated a cruiser. Armed with a sole MAC gun, 180 Archer missiles, and four Shiva missiles, the Halcyon was outclassed in every way by the Marathon-class cruisers that replaced it.
When the Human-Covenant War required every ship available to fight, many Halcyon-class ships were refitted with thousands of extra Archer missiles and a three hundred percent engine capacity increase.
OTHER NAME: Human Attack Ship class C-II LENGTH: 3,840 ft [1,170 m] SPAN: 1,155 ft [352 m] USE: All-purpose attack and defense, troop and supply transport FAMOUS SHIPS OF THIS TYPE: UNSC Dawn Under Heaven, UNSC Pillar of Autumn

Reminds me of HALO...just saying.....

"I thought we had a truce..."
"Just because you keep saying it doesn't make it true."

Woah! I like how you did this. IDK what it is about star wars that draws me even closer, but I like it very much (perhaps it is because that masterpiece from Mr. Lukas was a large part of my childhood) I love how you did the action... definatly makes it more interesting, especially with that starship in mid-explision..... KABOOM! (maniacal laughter) :plotting:

Great work!

But why am I about the spacecraft from the wing commander movie?
Nullcast Featured By Owner Apr 4, 2012
You actually have a reason for your ships to use some of the faceted style Homeworld made popular (again?). And it's very nice to see ship designs and fluff that actually mesh.
Toblerone-muncher Featured By Owner May 1, 2012
It's retroactively based on the Reliance I, which featured in a 1994 SW comic. Homeworld came out in 1999.
Nullcast Featured By Owner May 1, 2012
They probably both take cues from some much earlier designer who I don't know about. Although Homeworld designs are largely a result of their limitations (when you have a software render option keeping polygon count low is a godsend.)
Toblerone-muncher Featured By Owner May 1, 2012
Cool with me, I love HW designs.

The book also has Alsakan battlecruisers and the Invincible-class from the Han Solo trilogy which was imaged by WEG. The Alsakan Atgeir-class battlecruiser being the inspiration for the Invincible-class dreadnaught heavy cruiser and both looking sorta similar to the cruisers in this image. The front of the ships are a definite connection which means, in-universe, both the Reliance I of Tales of the Jedi and the Atgeir/Invincible took design cues from these swift cruisers.
