Hi guys! This is a new set of 12 artworks I did for the new Star Wars Essential Reader's Companion. Although the dateline for this book was a lot tighter it nevertheless was an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
As with the last book I will be posting them in the order of sequence as it appears in the Reader's Companion. Enjoy!
This scene is from The Courtship Of Princess Leia and it is the first proper depiction of Teneniel Djo, witch of Dathomir and future Queen Mother of the Hapes Consortium. Luke Skywalker, who was checking out the wreckage of the Chu'unthor, is caught off guard by her sudden appearance and barely dodges a kick to the face. This is totally an unfair match-up but Miss Djo has no clue who she's dealing with.
For those who don't know there is actually an existing depiction of Teneniel Djo but it is a black and white sketch done back in the 90s. The publisher felt it was not reflective of how she's described in the books and so we gave her a little update and sexed her up just a wee bit so this result of it.

Oh man. You are making my day by having done these pieces of artwork. Just like th Entechment one, this is one of my favorite Star Wars stories, and one that I get a huge thrill out of seeing brought to life. Thank you!
Also, from what I recall, Teneniel was a bit incredulous that a male could use the Force, living in a matriarchal, isolated society where typically only females were "spellcasters," so she was not taking Luke as seriously as someone who knew that he was a Jedi would have. He was caught off guard himself. Which is to say that the pose, as noted by others, does not bother me much if at all.
the painting is amazing but I feel like I'm the only person concerned about her fighting pose. It's like she ran forward and then thrusted her butt towards Luke to......smother him (idk)? I assume she's going to wrap her legs around his head maybe, but even then, what trained fighter is going to attack master jedi, who is fully aware of her presence, in a way that makes her most vulnerable? His pose looks like he's winding up to bat her right out of the air, except she'll just be sliced in two even halves. Point is, I can't help but feel that while your technique is superb, the story telling is lacking, because luke is looking ready for action and Djo just wants to shove her genitals in our face for some nice T&A.

Though Djo's position is kinda strange, don't you think?..
Anyway, I like your idea!
