Ancient Battle by wraithdt Ancient Battle by wraithdt
This is one of ten pieces I did for the new Star Wars Essential Guide to Warfare. I had a blast working on it and I'm excited that I am able to contribute to the Star Wars universe.

I will be posting them in the order of sequence as it appears in the book. Hope you guys enjoy them!

This is a depiction of one of the earliest battles in Star Wars history. The ancient Rakatans storm a Killik hive on Alderaan for the glory of the Infinite Empire while the sentient insectoids fight for their survival.

History repeats itself as always. Some people build something up worth having, and then some other people show up to take it from them.

Because at this point on time blaster technology hasn't really started yet and those weapons the rakatan are using are force blades which are a forerunner of the lightsaber

According to Wookieepedia, they eventually died out on their home planet due to a shrinking gene pool and tribal warfare, as it is uninhabited by the events of the first Darth Bane book. The Rakatans that did leave Lehon found residence in the Rakan Archipelago where a few of them rediscovered space flight and began building orbital stations similar to the Star Forge.

Wasn't it also the Dark Side Of The Force (Starforge to be exact as it ran in Stars and the Dark Side)?

Read it on the Wookiepedia as well :3

Not much is known about the Rakatans. They brutally enslaved every race they came across, including the Humans, Killiks, Wookiees, and a native race on Tatooine whose name has been lost to history. They were not Force-users, but their creations radiated the Dark Side of the Force. They built great ships and stations, such as the Star Forge- with seemingly unlimited power supplies.

I don't think ancient, spacefareing Rakatans would be dressed like this or use simple swords... But still, a great pic!

Rakatans were always awesome!
It's kewl to see some war action at long last, as we could only read about them in books and knights of the old republic.

I'm not too accustomed with the Starwars universe before the film or Clone Wars animation (I am sure my husband is though!) I simply saw the thumbnail while I was browsing and thought it looked awesome at that size, now I see it larger I fell in love with it :)

What an amazing battle scene, I love the angle you have here, not too extreme but enough to reveal all that wonderful detail you have included in this piece! I can really sense the motion in this image...I will most likely be adding a lot of your artwork to my favourites in a minute! Beautiful lighting and I love the details you have done in the explosions and smoke.

Ah, the Killiks and the Rakata, both once great and terrible forces in the galaxy, but neither are a threat to anybody anymore with the Rakata extinct and Alderaan nothing but dust now! Fantastic work showing the short range melee combat between the Rakata and the Killik footsoldiers, but you open it up nicely in the back as the heavy duty fighting erupts from ships and fighters! You did a great job!
